What We Do - More Than Just A Meal
Harness the power of pasta! The vision of Allison’s Project to end global hunger begins with pasta and our local community. We believe that this sustainable food is the answer to provide the world with the energy we need. We are taking over hunger one child at a time!
Alison’s Project identifies food insecure children who are underprivileged in our communities. We ensure these children have access to warm nutritional meals nightly by delivering the meals to their after-school programs. Our dedication knows no bounds as our partner, Caterina’s Club, is serving over 5,000 kids in 29 different cities at 89 different locations spread throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of these children, their families, and hope to only expand even further.
How We Do It
One of the incredible things about pasta is that it’s versatile. It’s filling and inexpensive to prepare. When combined with a sauce based on vegetables or legumes it provides important fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is a sustainable food and the production of pasta has less impact on the environment compared to many other foods. Pasta is more energy dense and discourages waste because leftovers can be used to create delicious dishes, especially with the addition of healthful ingredients like olive oil, fish and meat. Pasta is also advantageous to serve because it is light weight, it doesn’t need refrigeration, and its packaging is completely recyclable. The most important goal of this program is to end child hunger and we’ve never found a child who categorically says they don’t like pasta.
The Kitchen:
Each day (Mon-Fri), the following schedule will apply to the preparation and delivery of the meals.
Daily Schedule:
1:00pm – Prepare food
3:00pm – Kitchen food delivery
3:30pm – Food arrives at After School Program
4:00pm – Children eat
5:00pm – Depart After School Program
Transporting the Pasta:
After cooking the pasta, the pasta will be properly wrapped to transport to the distribution site. To ensure the integrity of the pasta is not compromised, an expedient delivery will be made. We do not want the integrity of the pasta to be compromised and have the kids eat soggy pasta. It is important to Allison's Project that the kids not only get nutritious meals but also enjoy the pasta!
